May Update
In the fall of 2005 I undertook a project to enclose the little covered area that I built when we did our remodel in 1992. I had built the covered area with the intent to store my tiller and other equipment, but that did not work out too well because when the winds would blow, the rain would blow rain in under that area. So I decided to enclose that area. The problem was that there was a window there that went in to our bedroom and that would need to be removed.
Covered area (with board over removed window) – Finished enclosure. Now keep in mind, this was back in the fall of 2005 and by the time I finished the outside, I was tired.
Removed window with insulation added - Covered with sheet-rockAnd that is how that area in our bedroom has stayed since that time. It has been an eye-sore, but our intent was to purchase some armoires to put up against that wall but never found the money to do that. I do not remember the connection and how this came about, but some friends (she does my taxes) said they had some armoires they were going to get rid of and told us that when they decide to do that, we could have them. That was a few years back, but recently Kris called and told Judy Lynn that they were ready to make their change and that we could come and get the armoires. So Judy Lynn, Chad and I went over one night last week and got two of the three (she did not have the last one unloaded yet) so I figured that I had better get busy and get that corner of our bedroom “fixed”. I have only tackled a tape and plaster job once in my life and that was in a bedroom of our new home in Malad and when I got part way through I realized I did not know what I was doing and ended up hiring “professionals” to come and do the rest of the basement we were finishing. The sad part is that the room that I had “started” ended up costing the most for them to “fix” to make look the way it should. So you understand my reluctance to take on this task, but it was too small of a job to get someone in and I am just stubborn enough to think that I should be able to do this small job.
Almost doneSo I got busy and for the past three days I have added a coat of plaster. The first day I put the “tape” over the joints and after that was just adding the plaster. This picture was taken after the second coat and you can see some rough spots but they sanded out nicely and I have since added the third coat. I will sand the rough areas again today and then add the texture (in a can) that I purchased from Home Depot. I think I will also paint that one wall and when I finish the project, will up date this web site.
ShelvesThe armoires were to tall to go next to the window, so I built this shelf to go in the corner and is supposed to fit right under the window. I will be glad when I get this project further along and will update this blog then. One other project. I have this trailer that I use to haul the tractors around as I shuffle them between Todd and my place. A couple of weeks ago Todd borrowed a friends tractor and we put this sub-soiler on the back of the tractor to subsoil the rows between our trees and also break up his garden. While we had the tool on the tractor I brought it to the house, took a panel of my fence out and took the tractor in my garden spot and gave it a good going-over with the sub-soiler. I have only been tilling the garden spot and the ground underneath where the tiller reaches is as hard as a rock, and this tool pretty well took care of that.
Borrowed tractor & TrailerI should have taken the picture from the other end so you could see the tool, but I really wanted you to see the trailer. As those of you that follow our family activities, know that Memorial-Day weekend is a “BIG” affair up here. That is when our family joins a bunch of friends and we go to Barton Park (about 20 minutes away) and camp for the long weekend. There are about 13 reserved sights this year and I think we are going to be responsible for meals for about 30 + folks (and that is only part of the crowd). So that requires me to take my grill and a lot of equipment along. In past years I have loaded up my small pickup and had to make a couple of trips. This year I came up with the idea of putting railing around the trailer and getting all of my equipment taken down in one trip.
Trailer with railing addedToday is Thursday and we will be going down to Barton Park tomorrow and I have already started to load the trailer and there is going to be PLENTY of room. Now the only problem is what to do with the trailer down there after I unload my equipment. There won’t be enough room to park it there in the campsite. I will worry about that when I get down there!Other than that, not much going on

But the tractor and trailer are no longer borrowed… correct?
Well, not to confuse you, the trailer is now mine, but that particular tractor is borrowed. Ours is to big to go down the rows between the trees, so we trade with this friend of Todd’s. When he needs a bucket, he borrows our, when we need to go down the rows of trees, we borrow his.
